Total Worker Health is Incomplete Without Trauma Intelligence

Carolyn PortaDr. Carolyn Porta, Director of the Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing  (OEHN) program, recently wrote an article published in Workplace Health & Safety entitled Total Worker Health® is Incomplete Without Trauma Intelligence™. The article stressed the role of trauma intelligence as a key component of Total Worker Health®, which emphasizes whole worker well-being.

Occupational health professionals will not effectively confront systemic and deeply rooted injustices without being trauma-informed and having emotional intelligence. Trauma intelligence™ is the combination of being trauma-informed and emotional intelligence. Those who have trauma intelligence™ – which can be developed with intention and skills-building – will be best positioned to promote healthy and safe workplaces.

Occupational health professionals will not effectively confront systemic and deeply rooted injustices without being trauma-informed and having emotional intelligence. In fostering trauma-intelligent workplaces, we build a future where every worker thrives and contributes to environments designed to respect and support their experiences.Carolyn M.
