MCOHS Seminar Series
10:00AM - 11:00AM
As a part of an organization’s overall risk management efforts, root cause analysis (RCA) is a valuable
approach for assessing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risks. Whether in a healthcare setting, on a
construction site, in a manufacturing facility, at a service provider or elsewhere, RCA can be used to reveal
underlying factors contributing to workplace incidents, identify preventive actions, support data-driven
decision making, and facilitate continuous improvement in an organization’s OHS programs. This session
will introduce basic concepts in RCA, discuss its use in the OHS setting and explore a set of basic yet
effective tools for conducting RCA.
After this presentation, learners will be able to:
1) Understand concepts in RCA and its function in an organization’s OHS program
2) Identify the context in which OHS professionals might use RCA
3) Gain exposure to a basic set of RCA tools using simple OHS scenarios
